Sexual content is the thing that would give me pause here, but not in the way you might think. ![]() Ultimately, though, you will hear worse language and far worse crude humor in your average PG-rated movie these days. Crude humor is either extremely rare, or nonexistent, depending on how you define it-the worst I've seen so far is one of the characters subtly (and jokingly) suggesting that his friend had been fleeing an approaching army because he had been caught with the king's daughter. There are a few instances of "damn", and a few more of the phrase "bloody hell", but they are very infrequent. Language is not an issue in this book, at least not for the average 11 year old. So, if you would allow your 11 year old to read the Hunger Games trilogy, then Mistborn (at least the first book, which is all I've read so far) should not prove to be an issue, as far as violence goes. While it can be somewhat graphic, it really does not get any worse than the level of violence in some popular YA literature (the Hunger Games comes to mind as a good example of this). I would say an 11 year old who was reasonably mature for his age should have no problem with the violence. I just read the first book, so while it is fresh in my memory I'll chime in here. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Or are they risking their friendship for a fling that could burn them both? Catherine Coulter does have a gift for fun and lively dialogue. Two, I wanted more of the hero and heroine. One, I thought they might get their own novel. There are intimate scenes and POV's from them that I just didn't and wasn't interest in reading about. The heroine's sister marries the hero's cousin. The hero and his brother discuss their bastards in the beginning of the novel!!!!! The hero has one child out of wedlock, but it is never mentioned again in the novel!!!!! Um, hello!!! Not very romance-book-hero-like to me. It didn't add much drama to the story but it was a big thing in the beginning and end. There are few plot elements I thought didn't go well and took away from the romance. Perhaps it is because this is an older book. ![]() There were all of things, writing wise that I would change. When the Swedish Red Cross rescued Lobel and her younger brother from a Nazi concentration camp in Poland, she learned handwork from Swedish nurses and delighted in knitting and embroidering flowers. As a young child in Poland she finger wove chains of flowers and wreaths for her hair. Her fondness for flowers emerged from childhood experiences first in her native Poland and then in Sweden. Lobel’s cat Nini, is featured in several of her books. The flowers in her books are artistic abstractions or literary plants not literal ones. Does someone who draws and paints flowers also grow a garden? Lobel maintains she is a ‘picture maker’ not a gardener. Flowers are found decorating curtains and draperies ( Al l the World’s a Stage), growing in a garden ( A Rose in My Garden), woven into a babushka and shawl ( Potatoes, Potatoes), etched on bed frames ( Lena’s Sleep Sheep), camouflaging a cat ( Nini Lost and Found), and embossed on a ceramic cookie jar ( Taking Care of Mama Rabbit).
